KoreAm Journal Presents Its Fourth Annual KoreAM Pro-Am

LOS ANGELES (April 5, 2010) – KoreAm Journal, the most widely circulated, longest-running, independent English-language publication serving the Korean American community, recently hosted the annual KoreAm Pro-Am Golf Tournament at the Pacific Palms Resort, located in the City of Industry, in Southern California.

Sponsored by Michelob Ultra, the Monday, April 5th event paired 24 LPGA tour players, including Se-Ri Pak, Vicky Hurst, Na Yeon Choi, Song-Hee Kim and Eun-Hee Ji with a field of amateurs, in what proved to be an exciting and fun-filled tournament. KoreAm’s Publisher and President James Ryu, kicked off the festivities Sunday evening with an exclusive dinner, followed by a pairings party emceed by Lee Ann Kim, Executive Director of the San Diego Asian-American Film Festival. Song-Hee Kim followed a third place, nine under par performance at the Kraft Nabisco Championship with a first place finish in the evening’s Karaoke contest, earning her a Titanium VIP Card courtesy of New York-based Willow Hotels which provides her with complimentary accommodations at their hotels worldwide for as long as she remains active on the LPGA.

“This is really the flagship Pro-Am event for our Korean players on tour…they really enjoy it,” said Sean Pyun, Manager of International Development and Membership Services for the LPGA. “This year, we had to turn down several players that wanted to play because we didn’t have enough spots,” as was clearly evidenced by the participation of over 100 sponsor players for the two-day event. The tournament’s first place finishing team led by Jee Yong Lee, received a crystal trophy, as well as a driver from Versus Golf. Second place finishers received a one-year Premium Membership to the Pacific Palms Resort.

Sunny Kwon of UNI Insurance summed up the event best, stating “This event is fantastic! I love getting to play with the pros…it’s so different when you actually play with them and realize how good they are.”
